DG Equipment / How to play Winter Disc Golf with "winter" discs??
« on: December 29, 2012, 11:32:57 AM »
Just find a good 2-3 foot long dark or neon color ribbon. Best to find non-cotton types. And use good adhesive package tapes.

See the top view photos of my "winter" disc to see where the ribbon should be placed. IT MUST BE ON TOP, NOT THE BOTTOM!!

When you mount the ribbon with tape, be sure that the ribbon are in the middle of the disc, not the tape. When you done mounting, it the ribbon should be held up and you should see the ribbon being in the  middle with the disc balancing almost level. See photos below.

Last thing is to straighten out the new curly ribbon by either using butter knives or pen or anything with flat non-sharp edges to rub the ribbon's curls in the opposite way to allow the ribbon to straighten out more.

Its best to do this inside/indoor and leave the ribbon taped for 6 hours or more to allow the adhesive tapes to seal in before going out and starting throwing those "winter" discs.

Go out and enjoy winter disc golfing!!  8)

These sites have helped me a lot with working on my practice putt.  Now I just need to find a way to transition the practice putt to the course.  Lately my tournament putt looks like like a gust of wind took a paper plate off the ground and sent it in the general direction of a basket ... fun times

New England / News from NEDDG Members at TX11
« on: May 24, 2011, 12:00:35 AM »
Thought I would give you the updates news from us, NEDDG, about our expereinces at TX11.... 8)

Travis and I arrived Austin on Sunday late morning, picked up the car and stop by Subway for lunch.

Then went to Backyard course and met Lee there. We played on AM tee. My gosh! What a T.O.U.G.H course to play!!

And it was soooo HOOOOT outside that day!!! We're already got slight sunburned (forgot to put on sunblocks) Travis already glupped down one bottle of water in the middle of our first round. We didn't finish the rest of the holes because we're out of water and supposed to play with the local TX players at later time. Went to gas station to get more water (its worth two bottles PER round in TX!!) and back to Backyard but we're kind of late to join the TX players as they are already at 4th tee and we wanted to play from the beginning to the end this time. So, we were able to finish the hole including the extra "B" hole which indeed a nice view of the area. We didn't do the extra "A" hole though. We aren't too satsify with our scores at this course and we hope to work on it later this week.

HOWEVER, IT WAS A HUGE THRILL TO SEE LEE TO MAKE HIS 2ND CAREER ACE SHOT AT THE VERY LAST HOLE #18!!! CONGRATS LEE!!!   :D

Today, Monday, Travis and I went to Twin Park Country Club and played at Parkshire course while Lee gone off to join his friend for boating rides. It was very windy that day about 16-18 mph wind (good! cool us down fast!) but its hard to make good shots when there are several holes where you will have to throw hard and striaght under the long tree branches which hangs way across the fairways. The branches' heights could be 5 to 10 feet high, quite tight shots. It was nice course to play, its mostly flat course that you could do rolling shots if you are good at it. Lots of bombing shots here and there. Plenty shades around. I can see this place can be good location for big events like TX11. Got a nice wide photo of #16 at Parkshire, will post soon!

More updates coming up when I can find the time!!!!

Tomorrow, Tuesday, planning to go back to Twin Park and play at Park Hill course (another bombing course...I think...see, see), then in the afternoon, play at Backyard's Pro Tee which even more harder...oh boy....

Off to bed!!

To Justin,

I must say congrats on your hot return into PDGA's scene this year!!

Look forward to see you again and hope to allow the players to seek your advices and experiences in playing PDGA Pro divisions.

I understand that you had shoulder or arm injury that pull you down to limited playing during late 2009 to 2010.

My questions are:

How were you able to keep it up after recovering from the injury?

Got practice basket at your home?

What's your go-to disc for doing 30-45 feet putt?

Got the time to meet up at Backyard this coming Sunday afternoon?  8)

My text is 802-275-6492 or email at DeafDiscGolfer@gmail.com

Many thanks in advance for any answers that you might give!!
